Loved it! I've always thought he doesn't get enough attention. I didn't know how radical he was in his social and political views, which made him particularly appealing. Also liked the fact that we had been to Pointoise where he lived last summer as we went to see the Van Gogh sights. Of course we didn't know Pissarro lived at Pointoise--the lack of publicity on that fact is interesting. But nontheless the landscape was familiar.Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05669924514599648160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11512746.post-34188926128457827672007-08-11T11:23:00.000-05:002007-08-11T11:23:00.000-05:00Anonymous...I was writing about Camille Pissarro.....Anonymous...I was writing about Camille Pissarro...not Pablo Picasso. I don't really like his works. Which does not reflect my feelings for African arts, which I love. Just not Picasso's works.

I am very eager to see what you did to those doors.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11512746.post-65926493379522238122007-08-08T14:02:00.000-05:002007-08-08T14:02:00.000-05:00Sonji, thank you for giving us a peek into your ch...Sonji, thank you for giving us a peek into your childhood...remember sankofa is the ability to look back to go forward...keep on keeping on!Karodahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12659789966973636488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11512746.post-30460069777935879322007-08-08T12:14:00.000-05:002007-08-08T12:14:00.000-05:00You have had an amazing life, my friend. I just love the bits you share.

I am fascinated by the very traditional act of copying the masters.

Someday young artists will be copying you. (Oh wait, people copy you already! At least I do.)Deborahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15630878222793439712noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11512746.post-80512866676014586712007-08-08T09:41:00.000-05:002007-08-08T09:41:00.000-05:00I love Pissarro, too! I even have a little reproduction of his up in my sewing room...it is of peasants gardening, so no wonder I can relate.

Did you ever read Irving Stone's biographical novel about Pissarro? It goes down so easy with lots of you-are-there detail...academic art critics might sniff at this approach, but I sure learned a lot about him from this book and in a fun way.
I would cut and paste the link to Amazon here for you, but it is too long for this comment box. The name of the book is "Depths of Glory", and there are 84 new and used copies, the cheapest of which is one cent.Allison Ann Allerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13158390991360498378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11512746.post-55977405059241565322007-08-07T23:14:00.000-05:002007-08-07T23:14:00.000-05:00Great post Sonji.
